As electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more popular, the demand for EV charging stations is growing rapidly. With Everest, we initiated an open source software stack that can be used to easily set up a fully fledged EV charger.
But EVerest is way more than a loose collection of libraries.
As EVerest supports all current relevant industry standards(such as OCPP, ISO 15118, DIN SPEC 70121), the software stack covers a large number of charging business cases, from a non-managed home charger to a load balancing multiple satellite bidirectional DC charging site.
To succeed and to be widely used, EVerest also needs to offer out-of-the-box support for as many relevant hardware as possible. This is why PIONIX implemented a driver for Lumissil’s Green PHY IS32CG5317 modem chip.
The Lumissil IS32CG5317 Green PHY chip is a central component in charging scenarios which depend on high level communication between the EV and the charging station, as defined in DIN 70121 and ISO 15118.
IS32CG5317 is a Green PHY modem chip designed with stringent automotive requirements in mind, from chip design to manufacturing. IS32CG5317 complies with HomePlug Green PHY and ISO/IEC 15118 specifications.
The IS32CG5317 brings new capabilities of collecting statistics not available thus far with other products. This product development follows the automotive industry’s standards to meet AEC-Q100 grade 2 specification and is available in industrial grade as well. The IS32CG5317 is in mass production and multiple OEMs and T1s develop products based on it.
When PIONIX’s dev team started with the implementation work, they were able to rely on very good documentation, the existing Green PHY driver – and the excellent and helpful support from Lumissil. Thanks to this, connecting the IS32CG5317 to PIONIX’ Yak (high level) board worked flawlessly. All this led to perfect results when the team tested the new driver against EVs. The chip performs perfectly: stable communication!
